Spanish club, Sevilla has announced the return of Nigerian internationals, Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho following their participation with the Super Eagles during the September international break.

The duo arrived in Seville on Wednesday, just a day after returning from a challenging trip to Libya for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ejuke, Iheanacho, and their Nigerian teammates were stranded for over 16 hours at Al Abraq Airport, approximately 150 miles from Benghazi, due to a flight diversion. The Nigerian government intervened, ensuring their safe return to Abuja.

Following the ordeal, the Super Eagles boycotted the match, and the Nigerian government summoned Libya’s Charge d’Affaires for clarification. Libya stated that the delay was unintentional, but the incident has caused diplomatic tensions.

Despite the disruption, Ejuke and Iheanacho are expected to return to training on Thursday, October 17, as Sevilla prepares for a key La Liga match against league leaders, Barcelona at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Sunday.

Ejuke, who joined Sevilla from CSKA Moscow in the summer, has been in excellent form. He was named Sevilla’s Player of the Month for September and currently leads La Liga in successful dribbles, with one goal in eight appearances. Both Ejuke and Iheanacho will be vital as Sevilla aim for a positive result against Barcelona.
