The Lagos State House of Assembly has been thrown into chaos following an invasion by operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) on Monday.
The incident led to a tense standoff between lawmakers and security personnel, ultimately resulting in the suspension of plenary sessions indefinitely.
According to reports, SSS operatives entered the assembly premises before the start of the plenary session, locking the Deputy Speaker’s office and sparking a confrontation with lawmakers.
The lawmakers eventually regained access to the assembly, but not before the situation had escalated significantly.
In response to the security breach, the lawmakers convened an emergency plenary session, where they passed a vote of confidence in the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
The assembly also resolved to launch an investigation into the incident and submit their findings to President Bola Tinubu and SSS Director General Oluwatosin Ajayi.
