Rivers State Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has suspended all political appointees and office holders in the state, effective immediately.
This decision was made under the powers granted to Ibas by President Bola Tinubu.
The suspension affects various officials, including:
- Secretary to the State Government
- Chief of Staff
- All Commissioners
- Chairpersons and members of boards, agencies, commissions, and parastatals
- All Special Advisers, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants
These officials are required to hand over their responsibilities to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies. In the absence of a permanent secretary, they will hand over to the most senior director or head of administration.
Ibas was sworn in as Sole Administrator on March 19, after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
The President also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
