A suspected pirate attack on a Ghanaian-registered fishing vessel has left three Chinese nationals missing and believed kidnapped.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening, when seven armed individuals boarded the ship, MENGXIN 1, and fired warning shots.
The crew members hid during the three-hour ordeal, and upon emerging, they discovered that the ship’s captain, chief mate, and chief engineer were missing.
The vessel is currently docked at Tema Fishing Harbour, and Ghana’s navy is investigating the incident.
The Chinese embassy in Accra has declined to comment, and China’s foreign ministry has not responded to requests for comment.
The incident highlights concerns about piracy in the region and the need for increased security measures to protect vessels and crew members.
