The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former House of Representatives member Gudaji Kazaure over the receipt of ₦70 million from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.
Kazaure was arrested in Kano after a High Court lifted a restraining order against his arrest.
According to the EFCC, the funds were received in two transactions: ₦20 million for “Sallah rams” and ₦50 million as a “donation” following a fire incident at his residence.
Kazaure, who represented Kazaure, Gwiwa, and Yan Kwashi federal constituencies in Jigawa State, is currently in EFCC custody and may face formal charges in Abuja.
The arrest marks a dramatic twist in a saga that began in 2022 when Kazaure accused Emefiele of embezzling ₦89 trillion in stamp duty collections, only to be later debunked by the Presidency.
