A viral video circulating on Friday has triggered widespread outrage after it appeared to show scenes of alleged sexual assault involving several women during a local festival in Ozoro, Delta State.

The disturbing footage, widely shared on social media, reportedly shows groups of young men attacking women in public, tearing their clothing and subjecting them to acts of molestation. The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday, March 19, during an annual community festival.

According to accounts from residents, women are traditionally expected to remain indoors during the festival, with those found outside allegedly becoming targets of harassment by participants. Some unverified reports also suggested that certain victims may have been raped, though these claims have not been officially confirmed.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, described the development as “alarming, disgusting and embarrassing.” He confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

Edafe stressed that the command strongly condemns the incident, adding that no custom or tradition justifies the violation of citizens’ rights. He urged residents to remain calm while assuring that those responsible would be identified, arrested, and prosecuted.

The police also called on witnesses with useful information to come forward to assist ongoing investigations
