Nigerians have reacted to the passing of Rotimi Akeredolu, the 67-year-old Governor of Ondo State who died in the early hours of Wednesday December 27.

Recall that, in response to his medical care, Akeredolu had applied on December 12th to take a second medical leave.

But on Wednesday morning, AAN TV reported that Akeredolu had passed away in the hospital where he was being treated for a condition that was reportedly leukemia.

Nigerians have taken to social media platform X to express their reactions at the sad development.

@ogbenidipo said: “Rest in peace Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Your voice was loud and your open letters were candid and frank. You fought a good fight and have returned to your maker. Condolences to the Akeredolu family and the entire people of Ondo State. To God we shall all return one day.”

“The death of Aketi throws the APC ticket wide open. Jimoh Ibrahim looking more likely,” @shinaspeaks wrote

@Dondekojo tweeted: “We encourage our best to go into Politics then eat them up. Rotimi Akeredolu was an accomplished Lawyer, Ex NBA President and spent most of his life in private practice, now that he’s dead, some people want to make everything about Politics. Shame.

Rest in Peace Aketi SAN.”

“We are all going to die. Those who mock Akeredolu and those who have nothing but love and sympathy for him for holding Ondo State hostage while he was fighting for his life.  Everyone will die. Death is the common denominator,” @MrOdanz stated.
