On Monday morning, September 9, a group of protesters gathered in front of the Lagos State House of Assembly, hoisting banners with the message, “We Don’t Have a Place to Live.”
The demonstration occurred around 10:45 am, coinciding with the arrival of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Assembly complex.
Though the exact reason for the protest remains unclear, AAN TV reliably gathered that the crowd’s presence was marked by visible frustration, with many chanting slogans while holding banners pleading for attention to their plight.
The banners did not provide specific details regarding the cause of their grievances, but it is widely speculated that the protest could be linked to the ongoing demolitions in various parts of Lagos.
In recent months, Lagos has witnessed a series of government-led demolitions aimed at reclaiming land and addressing illegal constructions, which have left several residents and business owners displaced.
While the Lagos State government has justified these demolitions as part of urban renewal efforts and tackling illegal settlements, they have sparked public outcry.
