A counter-insurgency alert, concentrating on the Lake Chad region in Zagazola Makama, disclosed that the incident occurred during the early hours of Thursday, December 28, 2023, around 7 am. The location was identified as the Yanayakiri-Garin Kuturu vicinity within the Jakana general area.

He said: “The terrorists also planted around the vicinity which killed one NSCDC personnel”.

Recall, on December 21, ISWAP perpetrated an act of vandalism on two transmission towers near Katsaita village, resulting in a disruption of power supply to sections of Borno and Yobe states.

The incident involved the collapse of a 330kV transmission tower, subsequently bringing down tower T373 along the same transmission line route. This disruption adversely impacted the power supply to regions in the Northeast, specifically Yobe and Borno States.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) engineers identified the fallen towers during routine line monitoring aimed at determining the cause of the power outage. Local residents confirmed hearing a substantial explosion before the tower’s collapse.

Upon conducting a comprehensive investigation, the engineers uncovered evidence of explosive materials used by the vandals to bring down the towers.
