South Africa is on high alert as two cholera cases have been identified in the northern Limpopo province.

The patients, both Zimbabwean nationals who recently crossed the border, are currently isolated in a local hospital.

With the cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe claiming over 200 lives, and 300 reported deaths in Zambia since October, the urgency for public awareness is emphasised.

The South African health department urges citizens to stay calm yet vigilant, advising prompt medical attention for anyone displaying cholera symptoms.

This bacterial disease, transmitted through contaminated water or food, can lead to severe dehydration and, if untreated, fatal consequences within hours.

The situation underscores the importance of border health monitoring and regional cooperation to mitigate the spread of this potentially deadly infection.
