Former President Ernest Bai Koroma departed Sierra Leone this afternoon, heading to Abuja, Nigeria, aboard a Nigerian Air Force flight from Freetown International Airport, Lungi.
This move follows charges related to his alleged involvement in the failed attempted coup on November 26th.
Despite facing legal issues, President Bio granted him permission to leave the country for specialised medical reasons.

Accompanied by a high-profile delegation, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Kabba, Chief of Defense Staff Lieutenant General Peter Lavahun, Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, and lead attorney Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, the former President was seen off from his residence to the Water Taxi, which transported him to Lungi for departure.
Nigeria, in accordance with a bilateral agreement and a proposal by ECOWAS to President Bio, generously offered to host Koroma temporarily in Abuja.
This departure for medical treatment signifies a noteworthy development in the ongoing legal proceedings, emphasising the former President’s health in this chapter of his journey.
