Governor Babagana Zulum had banned metal scavenging in Borno State since July 2023 due to concerns about insurgent attacks on scavengers in deserted areas.

Recently, two repentant Boko Haram insurgents were killed by an IED in Damboa LGA, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.

The insurgency violence in Nigeria has claimed over 40,000 lives since 2009, displacing around two million people.
