Sinayoko Sends Mali to AFCON Quarter-Finals for the First Time in 11 years

Lassine Sinayoko scored the winning goal as the Eagles of Mali defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in their quarter-final match on Tuesday night.

The Malians took the lead in the third minute after Edmond Tapsoba scored an own goal. Lassine Sinayoko who plays for Ligue 2 club, Auxerre doubled the lead three minutes into the second half of the match after putting the ball through the legs of the Burkinabe goalkeeper.

Burkina Faso continued to find a goal until the 57th minute when Bertrand Traore converted from the spot to make the score 2-1. Issoufou Dayo equalized in the final minutes of the game to make the match 2-2 but was ruled for offside.

The Eagles of Mali who have now reached the quarter-final for the first time in 11 years will play against the host country, Ivory Coast who defeated defending Champions, Senegal.  The match will be played on Saturday, February 3rd 2024 in Bouake.
