Nigerian Government to Reward Super Eagles for Afcon Final

The Nigerian Government has promised to reward the Super Eagles for their stellar performance against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated South Africa 4-2 on penalties to advance to the Final of the 2023 Afcon tournament in Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday night. The Vice President of Nigeria, Kassim Shettima who was in attendance for the Semi-Final match met with the players of the Super Eagles and praised them for their”commitment and dedication”.

This was released in a statement shared on the Super Eagles’ handle on X. The statement read thus “The Federal Govt has promised to reward the Super Eagles for their commitment and dedication in reaching the Final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in CIV. Vice President Kashim Shettima told the players and their officials in the dressing room, following their hard-fought victory over South Africa in the semi-finals on Wednesday, that the government and people of Nigeria are proud of their accomplishment. The VP was in company with Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Minister for Youth, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim as well as Oil mogul Wale Tinubu, FIFA Council Member Amaju Pinnick and NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau.

Nigeria will play the final of the 2023 Nations Cup versus Host Nation, Ivory Coast who defeated DR Congo 1-0. The Final will be played on Sunday, February 11th, 2024 at the Alasanne Ouattarra Stadium in Ebimpe.
