The Nigeria Table Tennis Team has qualified for the Quarterfinals at the Ongoing All Africa Games in Ghana.
They joined other top seeds like Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia and Madagascar in the quarterfinals of the Men’s Category. Egypt won Group 1 by beating Ethiopia and Ghana 3-0. Nigeria in Group 2 alongside Congo DR and Mauritania had 3-0 wins over the two teams to top the group. In Group 3, Algeria defeated Angola and Guinea to Advance to the last eight and Tunisia beat Ivory Coast and Kenya to win Group 4. Madagascar completes the quarter-final team defeating Ghana and Sudan respectively.

The second-placed teams in each group will battle for the three remaining spots to join the Top Seeds in the quarter-finals. In the Women’s Table Tennis Quarter-Finals event, Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa and Tunisia qualified for the quarter-finals. The second-placed teams in each group will complete the quarter-final phase.

The President of the African Table Tennis Federation, Khaled El-Salhy praised the Host Nation, Ghana for creating a conducive environment for the tournament. He also commended the Participating teams for their performance. Mr.Khaled revealed that I am so excited that we have over 19 countries in the event, we are particularly impressed with what Ghana has put in place to ensure the success of the event. We are lucky to be the first sport to start competing at the 13th African Games which has shown that Table Tennis is fast returning to Ghana just like it was in the 1970s”. ‘We look forward to more exciting matches just like what we had in the finals of the single event which is a good advertisement for table tennis to the world.
