Former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, stirred controversy during the National Constitutional Dialogue organised by The Patriots, a pan-Nigerian group of eminent leaders of thought.

The event, themed ‘Lawful Procedures for Actualizing a People’s Constitution for Nigeria,’ honoured Prof. Ben Nwabueze under the chairmanship of Chief Emeka Anyaoku at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Lagos.

In his address, Ibori called for the dismemberment of Nigeria, stating that it’s not solely about dismemberment but correcting the anomaly called the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

His remarks have ignited a heated debate across the nation, with some questioning the implications and feasibility of such a drastic move.

Ibori’s call for dismemberment comes at a time of heightened tensions in Nigeria, with various ethnic and regional groups advocating for restructuring or secession.

His stance adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing discussions about the future of Nigeria’s political landscape.

Important dignitaries at the event included: Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Prof. Ozekhome (SAN), who presented the keynote address; Senator Aminu Tambuwal; former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, Prof. Anya O. Anya; Senator Gbenga Daniels, Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Chief Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere; Senator Ibukunle Amosun; former governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aragbesola; former governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke; former Akwa Ibom State governor, Obong Victor Attah; General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd.) and a host of other dignitaries.
