Egypt Emerges Overall Winners as  AllAfricaGames Comes to a Close

The closing ceremony of the AllAfricanGames came to an end on Saturday night as Egypt emerged as the overall winners on the medal table in Ghana.

An eventful 16 days comes to an end in Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast with a parade of all the participating countries’ flags while music was played from the sound stages to the delight of the fans.

The President of Ghana, President Akufo Addo extended his heartfelt wishes to the people of Ghana and the participating countries for a successful competition.

On the final day of the competition, eventual champions, Egypt claimed two more gold to take their gold medal tally to 101 at the continental sports showpiece event.

The 13th edition of the African Games in Ghana which began on March 8 2024 will be remembered as one of the best for sporting excellence. The Games were initially billed for August 2023 but a failure to complete facilities on time and issues over marketing revenue resulted in the event being delayed till March 2024.

Egypt emerged winners of the event with 189 medals (101 gold, 46 silver and 42 bronze) while Nigeria finished in second position with 47 gold, 33 silver and 40 bronze to claim a total of 120 medals.

South Africa came third spot with 106 medals (32 gold, 32 silver and 42 bronze) as Algeria ranked the fourth best country at the event with 114 medals (29 gold, 38 silver and 47 bronze).

Tunisia completed the Top 5 with 87 medals (21 gold, 27 silver and 39 bronze), while Hosts, Ghana finished in sixth position with 19 gold, 29 silver and 20 bronze medals.

The audience was thrilled with performances from Ghanaian artists such as , Shatta Wale and King Promise. Artist from other parts of Africa like Nigerian, Odumodublack and South African sensation, Kamo Mphela also performed to close a befitting competition.

The next African Games will be held in Egypt 2027. Ghana Minister of Sports,Hon. Mustapha Ussif and H.E. Amb. Cessouma Minata Samate hands over the flag of the African Union to the Minister of Youth and Sports from Egypt .
