CAF Olympic Women Qualifier: Coach Ellis Names 24 Woman Squad For Super-Falcons Match

The Coach of South Africa Women Football Team, Desiree Ellis has named a 24-woman squad that will face the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the CAF Women Olympic Qualifier on the 5th of April.

University of Western Cape Goalkeeper, Regirl Ngobeni has been called up to replace Andile Dlamini who had to withdraw due to medical reasons. The squad includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, seven midfielders and six forwards. This squad includes the return of defender, Bambanani Mbane who got injured in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The initial 29-player provisional squad was cut down to 24 for the two-legged final round of the Qualifiers. Veteran, Noko Matlou, Lebohang Ramalepe, Linda Motlhalo, Refiloe Jane, Jermaine Seoposenwe, Hildah Magaia, and Captain Thembi Kgathlana headline the squad. The home-based players are expected in Nigeria with the officials on the 1st of April 2024 with the foreign-based players expected to join up with the team from their base.

The Banyana Banyana take a two-match winning streak over the Super Falcons to Abuja for the first leg on the 5th of April 2024. Four days later, the return leg will take place in Pretoria with the winner on aggregate qualifying for the women’s football event of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Two slots are available for Africa to qualify for the women’s Olympic event in Paris.

Morocco and Zambia will battle for the other ticket during the same period of the qualifiers.
