Nigeria Women’s National Team, The Super Falcons have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics after a 0-0 draw against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in Pretoria.

The Super Falcons held their hosts to a goalless draw to qualify 1-0 on aggregate having won the first leg 1-0 in Abuja last Friday, thanks to Rasheedat Ajibade’s first-half penalty. The second leg was a game of two halves as Nigeria controlled the first half while the home team, Banyana Banyana were a lot more dangerous after the break as they tried to break the deadlock.

The physicality of the Nigerians was a huge challenge for the reigning African champions, who struggled to get their passing game going. Nigeria kicked off this second leg and it was not long before striker, Chinwendu Ihezuo’s header connected with a cross from Ajibade but the South Africa goalkeeper, Kylan Swart pulled a smart save.

Nigeria and Paris FC Goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie was the busiest of the two goalkeepers in the second half as she made crucial saves to deny the South Africans. It will be the first time Nigeria will qualify for the tournament since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

They are drawn in Group C alongside World champions, Spain, Japan and Brazil. The Women’s Olympic Football Tournament will kick off on the 25th of July and end on the 10th of August 2024.
