Nigerian Army forces have captured a senior commander of the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP), identified as Saidu Hassan Yellow, also known as Abu Saidu.

Reports from Zagazola Makama, a security analyst in the Lake Chad region, indicate that Abu Saidu was apprehended during an operation by the 144 Battalion, Operation Hadin Kai, in Madagali, Adamawa State.

Abu Saidu was a high-priority target for the military and was seized in a sting operation at the Mubi Market General area on April 9, 2024.

The 32-year-old is believed to have orchestrated the assault on Askira town in November 2021, which resulted in the deaths of the Commander of 28 Task Force Brigade and three soldiers during a counter-offensive.

Among the items confiscated from Abu Saidu were three mobile phones, three ATM cards, a wristwatch, four rings, a set of keys, and N1,900 in cash.

The captured terrorists have been transferred to military headquarters for further investigation and profiling.
