Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde is set to honor Nigeria’s light-heavyweight boxer, Idowu Rasheed, for his recent victory in the Universal African Boxing Organisation championship.

Despite initially being denied the title due to a declared draw in his match against Ghanaian boxer Bastie Samir, the rightful recognition has now been restored. On Thursday, the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control received the Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) African Belt from the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). The Secretary of NBBofC, Segun Aboderin, confirmed this development in a statement released to journalists in Lagos.

Idowu “ID Buster” Rasheed clinched the vacant UBO African Light-Heavyweight belt with a round two knockout over Ghana’s Bastie Samir at Decathlon, Kawukudi Park, Accra, Ghana.

Despite the match being initially declared a technical draw following the intense second-round knockout, subsequent interventions by the Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) and widespread publicity led to a reversal of the decision in favor of the Nigerian boxer.

In recognition of his achievement, the belt has been forwarded to Dr. Rafiu Oladipo, the President of NBBofC, for the official decoration of Idowu Rasheed. Additionally, the Oyo State Governor is slated to honor the Ibadan-based boxer for his remarkable triumph personally.
