Udodi Onwuzurike, a US-born Nigerian athlete, has secured a spot to represent Nigeria at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He first made waves on the global stage at 18, clinching the 200m victory at the 2021 World U20 Championships in Nairobi.
Onwuzurike kicked off his professional career by impressively winning the men’s 200m at the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational in Florida with a time of 20.13s (1.9).

His exceptional performance not only secured his Olympic qualification but also saw him outpace competitors like Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (2nd in 20.40s) and Jona Efoloko (3rd in 20.44s).

In 2023, he set a remarkable personal best of 19.76s in the 200m while clinching the NCAA 200m Title, elevating him to the 2nd position on Nigeria’s all-time list and making him the 5th fastest 20-year-old globally in the 200m.
Additionally, Onwuzurike joined Nigeria’s elite club by achieving a sub-10s time of 9.92s in the 100m in 2023, ranking him 5th on Nigeria’s all-time list. His promising 2022 season included anchoring Team Nigeria to a 4x100m Bronze at the Commonwealth Games and representing Nigeria at the World Championships in both the 100m and 200m events.
