Allegations of a bullying culture at Lead British School in Abuja have ignited a firestorm of outrage across Nigeria following the viral posting of disturbing videos showing a female student, Maryam Hassan, being subjected to physical and emotional abuse.

On the night of Monday, April 22, an X user with the handle @mooyeeeeeee shared two videos on social media depicting Maryam being slapped repeatedly by fellow students, both male and female, who remain unidentified.

The footage quickly spread across platforms, sparking widespread condemnation and demands for justice.

In one of the videos, Maryam is seen enduring six forceful slaps from a female student while being interrogated about a personal matter. Another clip captures her being slapped a shocking 12 times by the same aggressors, while onlookers, believed to be students themselves, laugh and record the assault.

The incident, which unfolded within the school premises, has galvanized public opinion, with calls for immediate intervention to address the pervasive issue of bullying within educational institutions.

Before sharing the videos, @mooyeeeeeee implored Nigerians to amplify the footage to ensure accountability and seek justice for Maryam. The disturbing footage has thrust the Lead British School into the spotlight, prompting urgent discussions about school safety and student welfare nationwide.

The user wrote: “There’s a video I’m about to post. I need you guys to help me get justice for (sic). She was bullied in her school by her classmates at Lead British School, Abuja. Please make it go viral so she can get justice.”

The posts sparked wild reactions from Nigerians, with many calling for immediate sanctioning of the school and arrest of the bullying students.

They also called on the Nigerian authorities to probe the school management, noting that the incident might not be the first of its kind in the school.
