Newly appointed Head coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George has said that Nigeria’s journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup demands collective effort.
Expressing his delight at the appointment, the former Enyimba International coach commits to giving his all to ensure Nigeria secures qualification for the tournament. “I am pleased with the opportunity to lead the Super Eagles,” he says. “With the support of the NFF and Nigerians, I am confident we will achieve great things. I look forward to discussing further details with the NFF before addressing the media formally.”

The Nigeria Football Federation recently revealed Finidi George as the new head coach, entrusting him with the challenging task of guiding the Super Eagles through the tough 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers and securing their place in the final tournament to be hosted jointly by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Currently third in Group C, Nigeria faces a pivotal juncture with two points from two matches. They trail behind group leader, Rwanda by two points and South Africa by one, with Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Benin Republic closely competing. Finidi will lead the team against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in Uyo on June 3, 2024, followed by a crucial clash with Benin Republic’s Squirrels in Abidjan on June 10, 2024
