Rt. Hon. Elvert Ekom Ayambem has been removed from his position as the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
On Wednesday, 17 members of the assembly voted for his impeachment, citing allegations of fund misappropriation.
The motion for impeachment was introduced by Hon. Effiom Ekarika of Calabar South 1 Constituency and was seconded by Hon. Omang Charles Omang of Bekwarra State Constituency.
Rt. Hon. Ayambem had been serving as the Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly since his election in June 2023.
