CAF African Schools Championships: Tanzania and South Africa Emerge Champions

The CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals concluded with a memorable celebration of African youth football on Friday, May 24, as CAF wrapped up the four-day competition in Zanzibar.

A packed Amaan Stadium witnessed history as Tanzania were crowned champions in the boys’ division after defeating Guinea in front of their home supporters. South Africa also triumphed, becoming champions in the girls’ division with a dramatic 1-1 (5-4 on penalties) victory over Morocco.

The tournament which kicked off from May 21st to 24th on the Tanzanian island, culminated with the presence of CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who earlier visited the Zanzibar State House to meet H.E. Dr. Hussein Mwinyi.

Before the finals, a strong contest for the bronze medal took place. Uganda showed resilience, defeating hosts Tanzania in the girls’ third-place play-off. In the boys’ bronze medal contest, Senegal and Benin played to a balanced draw that was decided by penalties, with Senegal emerging victorious.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship concluded another impactful season of celebrating and developing African youth football across all aspects of the game.
