Egyptian Club, Al Ahly secured their 12th African Champions League title in a thrilling encounter against Esperance, prevailing 1-0 in the second leg of the final held in Cairo.
After a goalless first leg in Tunisia, Al Ahly wasted no time asserting their dominance as Rami Rabia’s early header, deflected off Esperance midfielder, Roger Aholou, found the back of the net, giving the hosts an early lead. Throughout the match, Al Ahly pressed for further goals with Wessam Abou Ali and Percy Tau coming close, while Esperance struggled to break through Al Ahly’s resilient defense.
Despite a spirited effort from Esperance, Al Ahly’s solid defense, led by Mostafa Shobeir’s exceptional form with nine consecutive clean sheets, proved insurmountable. Substitute, Afsha nearly doubled the lead late in the game, hitting the crossbar with a free-kick.
The victory marks Al Ahly’s fourth triumph in five years and extends their unbeaten run in continental competition to an impressive 22 games. With this win, Al Ahly secures a spot in Fifa’s expanded 32-team Club World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States next year alongside Esperance, Wydad Casablanca, and Mamelodi Sundowns.
