Ibrahim Lamorde, a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has passed away.
Lamorde, a retired police officer, died at the age of 61 in Egypt, where he had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness.
A former EFCC official informed reporters on Sunday morning that his remains would be buried according to Islamic rites.

Lamorde served as the third Executive Chairman of the EFCC from 2011 to 2015. He was initially appointed in an acting capacity in November 2011 following the removal of his predecessor, Farida Waziri, by then-President Goodluck Jonathan. The Senate confirmed his appointment as the substantive chairman on February 15, 2012.
Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 1984. He joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986.
Lamorde was the pioneer Director of Operations for the EFCC when it was established in 2003 and served as Acting Chairman until June 2008, when Waziri was appointed. He returned to the EFCC as Director of Operations in December 2010, replacing Stephen Otitoju, the then Acting Director of Operations.
