Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, currently leading an election observer team in South Africa, has raised concerns about the country’s new registration procedures.

Jonathan highlighted issues with the requirement for voters to apply for reassignment if they wish to vote outside their registered province, a departure from the previous system where voting in major cities like Pretoria, Johannesburg, or Cape Town was straightforward.

“Many voters have not completed the reassignment process, mistakenly believing they could vote as they did before,” Jonathan told newsmen

Additionally, he pointed out potential confusion stemming from the introduction of a third ballot, which is intended to include independent candidates for the first time in South Africa’s history.

“Voter education will be necessary at the voting centers, which could slow down the process,” said the former president, who led Nigeria from 2010 to 2015.
