Dangote Refinery Exports First Jet Fuel Cargo to Europe
Africa’s largest oil refinery, Dangote Refinery, has achieved a significant milestone by exporting its first jet fuel cargo to Europe.
The $20 billion facility, which began operations in April 2023, is rapidly ramping up its production.
On May 27th, the vessel “Doric Breeze” departed from the Lekki Free Zone in Lagos, carrying 45,000 metric tons of jet fuel destined for Rotterdam, Netherlands.

This shipment, allocated to BP, was part of a 120,000 metric ton tender issued by the refinery. Spanish refiner Cepsa also secured a portion of this tender and is expected to deliver jet fuel to Europe soon.
This export marks one of several achievements for the refinery in recent months.
To date, Dangote has exported six cargoes of jet fuel/kerosene to Senegal, Togo, and Ghana. According to S&P Global Commodities at Sea, the refinery plans to commence its first petrol supplies this month, with ultra-low sulphur diesel expected to qualify for export to Europe by the third quarter.
Dangote has already shipped naphtha, fuel oil, and gasoil to markets across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
