Seven athletes will represent Rwanda at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, scheduled from July 26th to August 11th.

These athletes include two in athletics, three in cycling, one in fencing, and one in swimming. The Executive Director at the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC), Jean Claude Rugigana confirmed in a telephone interview that all athletes will depart for Paris on July 6th, three weeks before the Games commence.

Additionally, one more athlete is expected to join the swimming team, bringing the total number of Rwandan representatives to eight. The confirmed athletes for the Paris 2024 Games are Yves Nimubona and Clementine Mukandanga in men’s and women’s athletics, respectively. In cycling, Eric Manizabayo will compete in the men’s road race, while Diane Ingabire and Jazilla Mwamikazi will compete in the women’s category. Oscar Peyre Mitilla Cyusa will represent Rwanda in men’s swimming, and Tufaha Uwihoreye will compete in men’s fencing.

Paris was awarded the 2024 Olympic Games at the 131st IOC Session held in Lima, Peru, on September 13, 2017. After multiple withdrawals, only Paris and Los Angeles remained in contention, leading the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to concurrently award the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics to the two cities.

Paris, having previously hosted the Games in 1900 and 1924, will become the second city to host the Summer Olympics three times, following London, which hosted in 1908, 1948, and 2012.

The Paris 2024 Games will mark the centenary of the 1924 Paris and Chamonix Games and will be the sixth Olympic Games hosted by France (three Summer and three Winter Olympics) and the first French Olympics since the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville.

The Summer Games will return to the traditional four-year Olympiad cycle after the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
