The Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, emphasised the importance of alliances between industries and academic institutions in producing graduates equipped for the workforce.

This statement was made during the maiden graduation ceremony of the “Telecom Access Foundation Programme” held at Skillport Training Hub, Oniru, Lekki, Lagos.

The event marked the graduation of 29 students who completed certifications in RF & Microwave Technology, Fiber Optics Solutions, Network Optimization, Renewable Energy Solutions, and Quality Environmental Health and Safety.

The program was organised by Omnicom Solutions in partnership with YABATECH and Summit University, with sponsorship from Omnicom Solutions and Endow Africa.

“YABATECH is bridging the gap between the academic and industrial sectors. We are committed to creating robust industrial alliances to enhance our students’ training,” said Dr. Abdul.

He highlighted that the collaboration extends beyond Nigeria, with 25 students currently in China for an 18-month training program in automobile technology

Deputy Zonal Director of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Dr. John Onyebuchi, praised the initiative, urging graduates to continue enhancing their skills to meet international standards. “The graduates are fortunate, and continuous upskilling will make them globally competitive,” he stated.

Summit University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Aibinu, also commended the program, emphasising the combination of knowledge and practical skills to create “industry-fitted graduates.” He remarked, “This initiative goes beyond just certificates; it equips students with essential skills.”

Faheed Olajide, Managing Director of Omnicom Solutions, called on more corporate bodies to collaborate in such training programs. “We aim to set an example and invite other companies to join us in benefiting students across various institutions,” he said. He added that some graduates would be retained within Omnicom Solutions, while others have secured interest from partner companies due to their comprehensive training.

The graduation ceremony underscores the critical role of industry-academic partnerships in preparing students for the dynamic demands of the modern workforce.
