Nigeria has earned promotion to Davis Cup World Group II after defeating Ghana in the first two rubbers of the ongoing Group III Africa Qualifier event.

The Nigerian pair of Christopher Bulus and Michael Emmanuel secured victories over Ghanaian players, Abraham Asaba and Isaac Nortey with identical scorelines. Bulus secured the first win with a 6-3, 6-2 result, and Emmanuel followed with the same score in the second rubber.

With these victories, Nigeria’s promotion to World Group II is guaranteed, regardless of the outcome in the third rubber, as the five-day competition concluded on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

In other news, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire are expected to be relegated to Group IV, while Benin Republic will remain in Africa Group III. Zimbabwe and Namibia will join Nigeria in World Group II after securing impressive wins at the event, which began last weekend in Abuja.
