In a groundbreaking move to alleviate the growing hunger crisis, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago has approved the release of 50,000 metric tonnes of food and slashed food prices by an unprecedented 90%.

This significant announcement comes amid rising tensions and plans for a nationwide “End Hunger” protest, particularly in Niger State.

Governor Bago, in a press conference, expressed his deep concern over the escalating food prices and the increasing number of Nigerians facing food insecurity. “We have so much food in our reserve m From today, I will release 50,000 metric tonnes of food,” he stated.

“In the next two months, by the grace of God, we are crashing the price of food by 90%,” he added.

This decision has also led to a pivotal shift in the dynamics of the nationwide protests. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which had been a vocal supporter of the “End Hunger” protest, has announced its withdrawal from the movement.

According to the NANS President, the association appreciates the government’s swift and decisive action to address the food crisis. “

The announcement has sparked widespread reactions across the country, with many citizens expressing relief and gratitude. However, some activists remain sceptical, urging the government to ensure the implementation of these measures and calling for sustained efforts to address the root causes of food insecurity.

As the nation watches closely, Governor Bago’s actions mark a critical step towards addressing one of Nigeria’s most pressing issues.
