Team Nigeria Captain and Africa Badminton Number One, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, will begin his quest for Olympic glory on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
Opeyori is set to face Switzerland’s Tobias Kunzi in a Group N contest that also includes China’s Li Shifeng, with the matches taking place in the Round of 16. The match against Kunzi is scheduled for 7:30 pm local time (6:30 pm in Nigeria) at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena.

Only one of the trio will advance to the next round. On Monday, Kunzi lost his first match to the seeded Chinese player, Li Shifeng, in two straight sets of 21-13. Opeyori will face the seeded Li Shifeng on Wednesday.

Anuoluwapo Opeyori is among the over 173 badminton players competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. His qualification makes him the first Nigerian player to qualify for two Olympic Games, having also featured in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Opeyori has dominated Africa in men’s singles since 2019, winning four African Championship titles and two African Games titles.
