Armed men have reportedly kidnapped Joan Mrakpor, former Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, and killed two of her police orderlies in the process.

The attack, which occurred around 4 PM on Tuesday, also left several others injured.
The incident took place at a church where Mrakpor used to worship, called ‘Jesus and 1’, located off DBS Road in Asaba. She was reportedly ambushed on the church premises, with the attackers shooting indiscriminately to disperse people before abducting her.
Mrakpor had recently resigned from her position in the government to support her younger brother’s bid for the chairmanship of Aniocha South Local Government Council. She was compelled to resign following protests that she should not hold a cabinet position while her brother chairs a local government.
The Delta State Police command has not yet commented on the situation.
