The Lagos State Government has mobilized the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Task Force officers to the streets in anticipation of the nationwide hunger and hardship protests set to begin on August 1.
On Wednesday, a significant police presence was observed as RRS and Task Force units conducted patrols throughout various parts of the state.
The operation commenced from Alausa, Ikeja, and extended through the old Tollgate, Ojota, Ogudu, and Iyana Oworo, reaching the 3rd Mainland Bridge area. Additionally, officers were seen patrolling the streets of Lekki, particularly around the Lekki Tollgate.
Meanwhile, Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, urged Nigerians to refrain from participating in the planned protests amid the ongoing economic crisis.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Akume emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is actively working to address the numerous challenges facing the nation.
