The Kano State Police Command has arrested 269 individuals for alleged involvement in acts of violence, destruction, looting, and harm to civilians during Thursday’s protest.
According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police recovered numerous items including 25-litre jerricans of groundnut oil, large quantities of stationery, foodstuffs, and other valuables.
Kiyawa noted that the suspects are currently held at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be charged in court upon the completion of the investigation.

He emphasized the Nigeria Police’s commitment to protecting lives and properties, warning that anyone responsible for violence, destruction, or spreading fake news to incite unrest will face the full extent of the law.
Kiyawa also urged residents to comply with the 24-hour curfew imposed by the State Government, stating that violations will not be tolerated. He assured the public that the police will continue to take proactive measures to prevent any breach of the law and maintain peace and stability in the state.
“Law-abiding citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to the authorities,” he added.
