Nigeria’s Women’s Basketball Team, DTigress has qualified for the Quarterfinals after defeating Canada 79-70 at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium, France.

It is the first time the Reigning Afro-Basket champions will qualify for the quarter-finals after failing to pass the group stage in previous outings. The Nigerian women’s basketball team made history in their final Group B match of the Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The game was evenly matched, with both sides scoring 18 points each by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the D’Tigress trailed their Canadian opponents, 41-37.

Determined to make history and advance to the quarterfinals, the D’Tigress intensified their efforts, leading 55-46 in the third quarter and ultimately securing a 79-70 victory. A standout player for Nigeria was the point guard and three-time Afrobasket champion, Ezinne Kalu, who scored 21 points and was a dynamic presence on the court.

The victory was a proud moment for head coach Rene Wakama, who had urged the African champions to return to their winning ways ahead of their game against Canada.
