The nation mourns the loss of Mrs. Maureen Kakubo Mwanawasa, the former First Lady of Zambia, who passed away this evening at Maina Soko Medical Centre after a brief illness.

Mrs. Mwanawasa, a beloved mother, sister, and aunt, was known for her commitment to social causes and her impactful role during her husband’s presidency. Her passing marks a significant loss for the Mwanawasa and Kakubo families, as well as the entire country.
