Mali and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Yves Bissouma has been suspended for the club’s opening game of the Premier League season after a video surfaced showing him inhaling laughing gas.

The video, which Bissouma posted on social media, shows him inhaling from a balloon believed to contain nitrous oxide, a substance that was classified as a Class C drug last year.

Following the incident, Bissouma issued an apology, acknowledging his “severe lack of judgment.” However, Tottenham has decided to exclude the 27-year-old from their squad for Monday night’s match against Leicester City.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou addressed the situation during a press conference on Thursday, stating, “I’ve been in the game for a long time, and when something like this happens, I try to look at it in a couple of ways. First, there’s the person—it’s Biss, and he’s made a poor decision. There are still sanctions involved, and some of those are educational. The second part is he’s a footballer with responsibilities.”
Postecoglou confirmed that Bissouma will not be available for Monday’s game, adding, “We’ve suspended him for Monday’s game. He needs to build that trust back with both me and the group. The door is open for him, and hopefully, we can help him realize the decisions he makes impact the group.”
When asked how Bissouma could rebuild trust within the team, Postecoglou emphasized, “Behavior, mate. It’s that simple. It’s about making better decisions. He was very apologetic to me, the club, and everyone involved, but that’s just part of it.”
Bissouma’s suspension is a significant setback for Tottenham as they prepare to kick off their season. The incident has sparked concerns about the player’s future at the club, with the focus now on how he will respond and make amends for his actions.
