Nigeria Forward, Victor Boniface scored as Bayer Leverkusen triumphed over VfB Stuttgart in a dramatic 2024 DFL-Supercup match, winning 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time at the BayArena on Saturday night.

Boniface opened the scoring in the 11th minute, converting a pass from Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba to give Leverkusen the lead. However, Stuttgart quickly equalized just four minutes later through Enzo Millot, who found the net past Leverkusen’s goalkeeper, Lukas Hradecky.

Leverkusen faced a setback before halftime when Martin Terrier was shown a red card, forcing head coach, Xabi Alonso to substitute Boniface for Jonathan Tah in the 41st minute to compensate for the dismissal of the French forward.
Stuttgart took the lead in the 63rd minute with Denis Undav scoring from a Frans Kratzig assist. But Leverkusen fought back, with Patrik Schick equalizing two minutes before the end of regulation time, thanks to a pass from Alejandro Grimaldo.

The match was decided by a penalty shootout, where Leverkusen emerged victorious 4-3. Nathan Tella also started the match before he was substituted for Frimpong in the 73rd minute.
