The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal by the Edo State House of Assembly, confirming that Comrade Philip Shaibu remains the Deputy Governor of Edo State.

The Court upheld the previous ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had nullified Shaibu’s impeachment and ordered his immediate reinstatement.
The court further warned that anyone other than Shaibu claiming to be the Deputy Governor would face legal consequences. This decision follows the impeachment of Shaibu by the Edo State House of Assembly on April 8th, citing accusations of perjury and leaking government secrets. However, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court ruled that the impeachment process violated due process and ordered Shaibu’s reinstatement.
The court also invalidated the appointment of Omobayo Godwin, who had been named as the new Deputy Governor in place of Shaibu. Additionally, the Inspector General of Police was instructed to provide Shaibu with adequate security to ensure he can resume his duties as Deputy Governor until the end of his tenure.
