Four farmers were killed on Thursday by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in the border community of Kerawa, located in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack occurred between 12 and 1 p.m. while the victims were working on their farms.
This tragic incident follows a deadly attack nearly two months ago in Gwoza town, where multiple explosions claimed the lives of over thirty people.
Bukar Aji, the Counselor of Jimini Ward, and Yakubu Ali, Chairman of the Kerawa Community Association, confirmed the incident via telephone. Kerawa is a border town near Cameroon, nestled in the Mandara mountains, a region known to harbor terrorist hideouts.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gwoza division told newsmen that he was not aware of the incident but promised to investigate the report. The DPO also speculated that the attack might have occurred in Kerawa, Cameroon, rather than in the Nigerian Kerawa, citing a recent similar killing in the Cameroonian town, which had caused confusion among the local population.
Gwoza, once captured by terrorists and declared their caliphate in 2014, was later reclaimed by the Nigerian military.
