Nigeria National League Club, Heartland FC of Owerri was involved in a tragic accident, resulting in the death of their head coach and former Nigeria goalkeeper, Christian Obi.

The accident reportedly occurred in Okigwe while the team was en route to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, to participate in the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT preseason tournament.

Some players and officials sustained injuries and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Obi, who was 57 years old, coached Heartland FC last season and was a former youth international goalkeeper for Nigeria, competing in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.
