The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Isa Bawa, the District Head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Describing the act as heinous, senseless, and unacceptable, the minister has directed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to pursue and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry, Henshaw Ogubike. The statement emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators face justice for their actions.
Alhaji Bawa, aged 74, was abducted in July alongside his son and six others while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni near the Niger Republic border. A video surfaced last Saturday showing the elderly monarch pleading for his release from captivity. Tragically, when a team was dispatched to deliver the ransom demanded by the kidnappers, they discovered Bawa’s lifeless body.
The Ministry’s statement reiterated that national security remains a top priority for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, highlighting the President’s unwavering support for the military in combating insecurity. The public was assured that the Armed Forces are committed to leaving no stone unturned in tracking down and prosecuting those involved in this grievous crime.
