In a significant stride towards empowering young minds, the Inmates Educational Foundation, Creative Digital Technologies, and Nigeria Youth Future Funds, in collaboration with Leap Africa, have successfully completed a six-week digital literacy training program for 30 juveniles at the Oregun Correctional Center in Ikeja, Lagos.

The comprehensive training covered crucial topics such as ICT fundamentals, basic computer operations, internet navigation, word processing, spreadsheet management, and presentation software.

Participants also showcased their newly acquired skills in a final project presentation. Additionally, this year’s program introduced engaging activities like chess, puzzle games, Rubik’s cube challenges, and dart skills, designed to enhance cognitive development and foster teamwork.

This pioneering initiative was aimed at equipping juveniles with essential digital literacy skills, paving the way for personal growth, educational advancement, and future career success.

By providing these skills, the program is designed to facilitate a smoother reintegration into society once the juveniles are released.

“We are proud to have made a positive impact on the lives of these young individuals,” said Mahfuz Alabidun, Executive Director of the Inmates Educational Foundation. “Our goal is to empower them with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.”
The success of the program underscores the critical role of collaboration and support from organizations and individuals dedicated to transforming the lives of juveniles in correctional centers. Mahfuz also encouraged brands and companies to support initiatives like this, which foster personal growth, education, and career opportunities for young offenders.
