President of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida has credited D’Tigress’ success at the 2024 Olympic Games to head coach, Rena Wakama’s autonomy in player selection, free from board member influence.

Nigeria Women’s Basketball Team, D’Tigress impressed by reaching the quarter-finals, defeating heavyweights, Australia and Canada in the group stage before bowing out to the United States of America.

Kida praised Wakama as a visionary leader who silenced critics with her achievements, emphasizing the importance of allowing the coach and technical crew to make team decisions. He lauded Wakama’s dedication, leadership, and ability to boost the players’ confidence despite the challenges.

Reflecting on the tough Olympic draw, Kida expressed pride in the team’s resilience, likening it to their surprising run to the 2018 FIBA World Cup quarter-finals. “My girls will always shock the world,” he said.
