Mafa Village, located near Shekau, the hometown of the late Boko Haram commander Abubakar Shekau, was attacked by suspected Boko Haram rebels on Sunday. The assailants raided the community in Tarmuwa Local Government Area, Yobe State, killing numerous residents and setting many homes ablaze.
The tragic incident occurred around 4 p.m. as villagers were returning from their farms. According to police spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim, while the attack has been confirmed, details remain scarce. “We have yet to determine the exact number of lives lost in the incident,” Abdulkarim stated, adding that the attack took place in the remote village of Mafa.
A local resident, Adamu Hassan, reported the attack to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station, noting the devastating impact on the community. The exact number of casualties remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation into the tragic event.
