Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Brigadier General (retired) Gakji Shipi, stated that the attack occurred after a long while with relative peace recorded in the affected areas.

“We have not had this kind of attack in a while until yesterday, so I would not say it’s been an increase, and there have been many reasons for that,” he said.

“We are looking into it, to be able to profile what the real issue is and then provide solutions, but I think it’s just one of those things where people who are not happy when they see there is peace in the land and where people are happy.

“Unfortunately, yesterday we had two separate attacks, one in Kwata and then Daffo. So far, we have casualty rates of seven dead and some injured.”

Also, the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard confirmed the attack in a statement on Wednesday.

Chairman of the group, Farmasum Fuddang, expressed sadness on the resurgence of deadly attacks by terrorists targeting ethnic minorities in the LGA despite the Nigerian military peace agreements.

According to the group, the latest attack in Daffo occurred on Tuesday night with peaceful residents in a commercial area not far from a military base as the targets leaving at least seven people dead.

“We feel betrayed by those responsible for our protection. Close to 10 of our members are currently lying dead, victims of the latest assaults in Daffo and Kwatas communities. These attacks were executed simultaneously on September 3, followed by a week of isolated attacks resulting in sixteen deaths,” the statement read.

The group commended the Special Task Force Operation Safe Haven for maintaining law and order in Bokkos and called for an investigation into the role of some security personnel manning the nearby base in Daffo.

Bokkos local government area has been one of the communities that has witnessed several attacks in recent times.
